[RG] Gael賽後訪問
Day 7 - An interview with Gael Monfils - Saturday, May 31, 2008
Q. How did you manage? What happened to him in the two last sets?
GAEL MONFILS: I think physically it was difficult for him. I think it was
difficult for him to develop his game in five sets.
He shot the ball very early, many overhead shots, and he became nervous at
one stage. So I think it's physically that he had problems.
Q. So you're in the round of 16. That's a beautiful achievement. How are you
going to manage all this?
GAEL MONFILS: Well, simply. I won. I like it. And then I refocus, and I'll
have a day off tomorrow, so I'll play a bit and practice. There is a big
match ahead of me on Monday, so that's very simple.
Q. What was the turning point in the match? Was it in the second set when
you had a break against you, you came back 54, Love40? You could have lost
this set and you won it?
GAEL MONFILS: Yeah, on that set point with this lob, that helped me quite
a lot. Maybe it's a turning point, but I didn't know how he would react.
At two sets Love I didn't know how he would react, so that helped me.
But I think what really made it was that he was not feeling well from a
physical standpoint, and I was feeling better. I started raising my level,
raising my game, adjusting my game, and it really was physical.
Q. You started being more aggressive, offensive on the third set.
GAEL MONFILS: Well, he was making more mistakes. He was taking the ball
much earlier, and I was feeling much better.
Q. So that means that at the beginning you couldn't feel the ball?
GAEL MONFILS: No, not as well. He played many dropshots. It took me a bit
of time to adjust my game to his style, to understand his serve, and read
his game better, so to speak. So it took me a bit of time.
Q. His game is slightly disorganized?
GAEL MONFILS: No, he plays very well. He plays many dropshots, and then
he comes to the net. It took me a bit of time to adapt.
Q. You've not played for a while. Reaching the round of 16 here in Roland
Garros, is it something that you expected? Because I think this is not
something you expected a few months ago.
GAEL MONFILS: No, you're right. A few months ago I was thinking about
recovering. But since I came back I've been practicing very hard, and I
worked. I work hard.
I took many tests with the Lagardère team. They helped me quite a lot,
and that was not easy. After each tournament I met with the team to analyze
this, and I think it's just work that made it possible for me to win one,
two, and three matches. I worked with Thierry and Rémi, and the team.
Q. What's the difference between Gaël Monfils two years ago reaching the
round of 16 already and the Gaël Monfils of today? Are you more mature?
GAEL MONFILS: I don't know. These are two different things. I came here.
I was a different person as compared to two years ago.
Q. Do you have a different way of preparing your matches?
GAEL MONFILS: No, I don't think so. I think I'm doing pretty much the same
thing as before, but the big difference is that I'll be less tired for this
round of 16 than I was two years ago.
Q. When you shout in Slovakian or French, when do you decide in which
language you're going to speak?
GAEL MONFILS: I also speak Caribbean French. It depends on my mood.
Q. Next round, who would you prefer?
GAEL MONFILS: They're both very tough players. I won against them both, and
they won against me, both of them, so no difference. No preference.
