Murray battles into quarter-final
Britain's Andy Murray saw off Stanislas Wawrinka in three sets to set up
a Toronto Masters quarter-final against defending champion Novak Djokovic.
Murray beat the ninth seed 6-2 0-6 6-4, despite losing seven straight
games.
Djokovic had earlier beaten Robin Soderling 6-4 6-4, and Rafael Nadal also
won, but former champion Andy Roddick lost to Croatian Marin Cilic.
And Gilles Simon, who caused a major shock when he put out Roger Federer
on Wednesday, beat Jose Acasuso 6-3 6-4.
Murray, seeded eighth in Canada, began and ended his match in style but
suffered an alarming mid-match slump that saw him drop the second set to
love.
The 21-year-old broke twice in succession at the start of the match, with
his forehand particularly impressive, and when Wawrinka, 23, called for the
trainer at 4-0 down an injury-enforced retirement looked on the cards.
But the Swiss carried on and, after saving two break points at the start
of the second set, he began to find some form.
After a double break in the second set Murray put little effort into
preventing losing it to love, concentrating instead on the third.
He's playing very well - for me, this is probably his best surface so I have
to go out there and play aggressively

The decisive moment came of the deciding set came when Wawrinka failed to
convert three break points in the second game.
He could not maintain his second-set form, and at 3-3 the errors crept
back into his game to hand Murray the crucial break, before the Scot served
out to set up the tie with Djokovic.
"I played really well at the start and I felt like I was hitting the ball
great," said Murray.
"Early in the second set I had a chance to break him and obviously I didn't.
"He started to pick his game up and it actually got very windy and I started
to miss quite a lot of balls and mis-hit a few. I think I missed the ball
completely three or four times.
"But I had to stay tough in the third set because he was playing much
better."
Djokovic is the defending champion at this tournament and will be looking
for his fifth straight win over Murray when they meet at 0000 BST on Saturday.
606: DEBATE
Well done Murray, although, I must say I can't see him beating Novak

"He's obviously, behind (Roger) Federer and (Rafael) Nadal, the third best
player by a long way," said Murray.
"He's playing very well - for me, this is probably his best surface so I have
to go out there and play aggressively.
"I can't afford to make as many unforced errors as I did (against Wawrinka )
but I'm playing well and I'm back in the top 10.
"I think my ranking might go up again after this week so I'm feeling
confident."
One thing Murray will not have to worry about in this tournament is any
further doubles matches.
Playing with brother Jamie, he lost 7-6 (7-3) 6-4 to Daniel Nestor and
Nenad Zimonjic.
And Federer's miserable week continued as he and partner Wawrinka lost
6-4 6-4 to seventh seeds Lukas Dlouhy and Leander Paes.
Meanwhile, Roddick - who lost 6-4 4-6 6-4 to Cilic - admitted he is
still struggling for form having played just seven matches since injuring his
back at the Rome Masters in May.
"Something doesn't feel comfortable," said the American. "It's a little bit
across the board.
"My forehand is just not doing anything. I'm missing it and that's the one
that I need to click right now."
