Tommy好好休息,台維斯盃加油了. Haas Is Fifth Victim in Davydenko's Straight-Set Run By Clair Maciel Wednesday, September 5, 2007 Nikolay Davydenko’s game has yet to be solved by any competitors in the 2007 US Open draw. The No. 4-seed has not dropped a set thus far, and his straight-set run through the draw held true to form Wednesday, when he defeated No. 10-seed Tommy Haas 6-3, 6-3, 6-4 to earn a spot in the semifinals for the second consecutive year. His three-set quarterfinal victory set a personal best for the Russian, as he has never made it to the semifinals of a major in such perfect fashion. So far, he’s shown no mercy to American Jesse Levine, Nicolas Kiefer, Nicolas Almagro and Hyung-Taik Lee before taking out Haas. Haas, on the other hand, has survived as the victor in at least four-set wins in every round. He went four sets with Steve Darcis and Philipp Petzschner, and he went the distance in five-setters with Sebastien Grosjean and in a physically taxing win over James Blake. Having expended that much energy and time on the court must have taken quite a toll on Haas’ body, especially going up against an opponent with a fresher set of legs. He said his frustration for not being able to hold serve on so many opportunities hurt him the most and cost him the match. “It's tough. The guy's a tough player,” Haas said. “You just have to hand it to him today. He came up with some great shots, very defensive play. At times, he makes you try to do too much. When you don't use your chances, which I think I had in the first set, when I didn't hold, to be up maybe 3-0, that hurt me a little bit. Got to me a little mentally. Every time I would try to do something different or fight my way out of it or do something, he came up with an answer.” Davydenko now awaits the winner of the match between Roger Federer and Andy Roddick. In his on-court interview, the typically reserved Davydenko begged the crowd for their support should he face the world No. 1 in the next round. “I appreciate your support. I know I live in Russia, but guys, please support me against Federer,” he said with a laugh. He also admitted he’ll need a little more than crowd support against whoever his next opponent turns out to be. “I feel like I'm ... top 10 player. I play very well,” he said. “But I'm not, you know, feeling I'm [reaching the] level to be No. 1, you know, to beat Federer or Nadal. I need to be more physically strong because these guys play perfect. That's why he's No. 1. If you need to beat No. 1, you need to play perfect. You need to get [your] body, everything to play very well, just try to play every point good.” At the start of the first set, both Haas and Davydenko managed to stay on serve by trading one break each. At 3-3, Davydenko broke Haas again, held serve at love and took the set with another break on a winning passing shot. The two battled in baseline rallies through the second set, but Haas’ unforced errors, combined with Davydenko’s more consistent play, cost him two breaks of serve. Though he earned one back, the 26-year-old Russian held on to take a two-sets-to-one lead. At 2-2 in the third, it seemed each player fared better on each other’s serve, and they traded five straight breaks before Davydenko had a 5-4 edge on his serve. On double match point, Haas netted a forehand return of serve to surrender the match.
