Goran Dragic told me his friends back home in Slovenia started calling him
regarding trade rumors. "Is that true? I said I don't know guys."
Dragic on trade rumors: "I understand it's part of the business. Some are
true. Some are not true. I don't have control of that."
Dragic on trade rumors: "I want to stay here. It's a good group of young
talent. I like the coaching staff. I feel like at home now."
More Dragic on trade rumors: "I know how I need to play, the style is perfect
for me... my goal is to be here for many, many years." #Heat
Dragic says he understands why #Heat may look to trade if team struggles.

Dragic said he received phone calls and text messages from friends back home
in Slovenia after his name surfaced in trade rumors Tuesday with the
Sacramento Kings.
"They said 'Is that true? Is that true? ' " Dragic said. "I said 'I don't
know. Come on leave me alone.' But I understand its part of the business.
Some [rumors] are not true. Some are true. But I don't have control of that.
The only thing I have control is to be focused in practices and games and
do my job."
"It's a good group of young talent," Dragic said. "Guys are unbelievable,
working hard. I like the coaching staff. I feel like at home now. I know how
I need to play and the style is perfect for me. My goal is to be here for
many, many years."

Erik Spoelstra informs Goran Dragic no truth to Kings trade rumor -
Goran Dragic appreciative of Erik Spoelstra's insight.
by Ira Winderman | Oct. 20, 2016
Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra took the somewhat extraordinary step Thursday
of confirming to Goran Dragic that there was no truth to the recent report of
the guard being part of trade discussions with the Sacramento Kings.
While the Heat typically dismiss trade rumors, Dragic said Spoelstra spoke to
him about the latest swirl during the morning shootaround at the Spectrum
Center, in advance of Thursday night's exhibition against the Charlotte
Hornets.
"Spo came over and did that today," Dragic said. "He just said those rumors,
they're not true."
Basketball Insiders had reported ongoing talks of a possible Heat move with
Dragic for Kings forward Rudy Gay and Sacramento guard Darren Collison, a
move that could have significantly increased the Heat's salary-cap space for
the 2017 offseason, with Gay holding the right to opt out of the 2017-18
season on his contract. Dragic has this season, plus two more and then a
player option on his contract, due $17 million in 2017-18.
"I told him I understand this is the business," Dragic said of Spoelstra
confiding in him, "The only thing I can do is do what I do on the court."
Among those traveling with the Heat for the team's final road exhibition is
General Manager Andy Elisburg.
Asked what he would think the next time that he is mentioned in a rumor if
Spoelstra would not offer the same type of denial, Dragic smiled, instead
grateful for Thursday's gesture.
"That was really nice from Spo," Dragic said. "That's not his job to come to
the players to say it, so I understand."
Dragic said he appreciated that there will be times when management and the
coaching staff might not be able to be as forthcoming.
"This is business," he said, "so I have no problem with that."

Erik Spoelstra takes time to tell Goran Dragic trade rumor is not true
by Anthony Chiang | October 22, 2016
With a trade rumor involving Dragic popping up earlier this week, Heat coach
Erik Spoelstra pulled Dragic aside to shoot down the rumor before Thursday’s
preseason game against the Hornets.
“We were just at the shootaround and he came to me and said, ‘G, I want to
clarify something. Those rumors, they’re not true and nothing is going on,'”
Dragic said of Spoelstra’s message to him. “I told him that I respect that
because this is not his job. But I understand that this is a business. But of
course, when he told me that it was a little bit easier for me.”
Basketball Insiders reported earlier this week that the Heat have discussed a
trade that involves sending Dragic to the Kings for forward Rudy Gay and
guard Darren Collison.
“My friends called me and my brother and all the people back home and asked
me, ‘Is this really happening?'” Dragic said of how he learned of the trade
rumor. “I was like, ‘I don’t know.'”
Dragic was appreciative that Spoelstra took the time to dismiss the trade
talk. Dragic, 30, remembers learning from his agent that the Suns traded him
to the Rockets in 2011 at age 24.
“I already got traded once and nobody told me,” Dragic said. “As soon as
we landed from the plane, my agent called to tell me, nobody else. Basically
it was a painful situation back then. But now this is my ninth year in the
league so I already understand.”
