Why? Because Battier emerged as one of the league’s best and most reliable sixth men last season. Coming off the bench in all but one of his 79 games, Battier averaged 8.5 ppg and 3.8 rpg in under 25 minutes per game last season. He finished first in the NBA in Steals Per Turnover Ratio at 1.80, shot 44.6% from the field and 34.9% from three-point range. He has seamlessly made the transition from starting 78 games in his rookie season, to 47 games in 2002-03, and then becoming a full-time sixth man last season. Much like the shooting guard situation with Mike Miller and Bonzi Wells, expect Battier to get the bulk of his minutes off the bench, but push incumbent starter James Posey every day in practice.
