The mysterious "TBA" associated with the team's Friday game against the
New York Mets was given a name on Tuesday when Little said Hong-Chih Kuo
would get the call, opposing New York's John Maine.
"We feel good about his stuff, and we feel like it's a good opportunity
for him," Little said. "I think he'll do fine. We had him in the starting
role at Triple-A ... He had more success starting than he did when he moved
to the bullpen."
Kuo started the season in the Las Vegas bullpen, but made nine starts at
Triple-A after spending most of June in the Dodgers 'pen, going 3-3 with a
2.61 ERA in those starts. In his 30 1/3 innings of relief work in
Los Angeles, Kuo has a 5.34 ERA and has allowed one run in three innings
since his return to the team in September.
Little said Chad Billingsley, recovering from a strained oblique muscle
that caused the rotation vacancy, threw about 75 pitches on flat ground
before Tuesday's game and felt much better. The news could mean Kuo's
appearance will be nothing more than a spot start.
"We're more optimistic about him, looking at sometime next week," Little
said. "We've got some options from here on out."
