8 January 2005 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Congratulations, that was a very, very tough match for you just take us through it. I’m just so happy that I got through this. I didn’t really feel like I was playing my best. I just tried to hang in there and fight for every point and it paid off. I am really glad that I got the first point for our country. Were the nerves a real factor for you today, having lost the Hopman Cup last year in the final? No it was nothing to do with that. I was more thinking about how badly I wanted to win this one. It means a lot to us and I really wanted to give Dominik a good start to the match. I was just so nervous because I really wanted to win today. With Dominik now going on to take on Coria, he will probably be just the under dog there. Do you think that will help in that match, from the fact that he is playing from in front? Yes, for sure. It is going to help him. Dominik loves this kind of match. He loves when he plays for Slovakia, whether it is Davis Cup or Hopman Cup. For sure he is going to come out playing really well and I think he has got a good chance to win. We will just have a look here (at the T.V.) now. We are going to show some of your ground strokes. Your rhythm took a while to get there today, but finally you were getting that depth on the forehand and the backhand. Yeah I was struggling a lot today. I think on every shot, because I was just so tight and nervous. That is what happens sometimes but I am just really glad that I didn’t give up and just kept fighting for every point. It was a really tough match and I’m really glad that I got the first win for Slovakia. And holding serve early in that second set when you were under pressure. Was that one on the points where you thought that, now I am getting into the match? Yes , I had to work hard for every point because I didn’t really feel like I had a good rhythm. I just had to really dig deep and I think the most important thing was the first break of the second set, where I felt like I was getting a little bit of momentum. When I broke her in the third set at the end I felt like I was in control and I had a pretty good last game on my serve. And the doubles, you feel that you and Dominik, if it has to go to that point you are going to be paying good enough? Yes sure. We feel very confident about double, because we played so well in all of our matches. We were really unlucky tat we didn’t win. We have a lot of fun together and it is going to be interesting.
