Hantuchova reached her second career Bank of the West Classic quarterfinal with
a 64 62 second round victory over big-hitting Chinese star Peng Shuai. The
Slovak dropped the first two games of the match in her first career meeting
with Peng, who recently acquired Michael Chang as her coach, but rallied to
prevail in one hour, 29 minutes.
"She was a very tough opponent but I kept fighting for the important points and
that made the difference," said Hantuchova, who also reached the round of eight
two years ago, falling to Kim Clijsters. "This is a good start to the summer."
Next up for the No.3-seeded Hantuchova is either No.5-seeded Shahar Peer or B
elarusian qualifier Olga Govortsova. She has never lost to either player.
"Peer and I had a great match in Indian Wells, so I'm going to expect the same,"
the Slovak said. "I still don't know too much about Govortsova. But whomever I
play it is going to be another match and I'll just have to do my best."
