[外電] Rocky Mountain Review - Day 1 Summary
(僅節錄亞特蘭大部份)
Atlanta vs. Utah
When the home team finally took the floor they did not disappoint
with a resounding victory over the Atlanta Hawks.
Deron Williams was the biggest name and by far the best player to
participate in this game. He was just a notch above every other
player on the floor and gave the impression that he could do
whatever he wanted whenever he wanted. He finished with 16 points
and 7 assists.
As with Podkolzin the game before Rafael Araujo looked much more
serviceable than expected. While not dominant he did not appear
to be the colossal bust that Toronto shipped away. Hoffa has lost
30 pounds to noticeably reshape his body and was effective but
extremely dirty. He was ejected midway through the third period
after receiving his second flagrant foul on a cheap takedown of
Marvin Williams. I had a great angle on this play and as both
players were falling towards the floor Araujo used his arms to
give Williams an extra hard shove directly into the base of the
basket. It was uncalled for and warranted the ejection and maybe
a suspension. Williams jumped from the floor to go after Araujo
and had to be restrained by his teammates and Araujo later left
the floor kicking aside chairs in the hallway to the locker room.
The altercation between these two players set up a very
entertaining 4th quarter in which the fans booed Williams
relentlessly and seemed to affect his concentration greatly.
While Williams finished with 22 points it was done in fairly
unimpressive fashion. Several NBA players I was sitting with
commented that he seemed to wilt under the pressure, first
missing the technical free throw and then fading in the stretch.
One commented in unfair fashion that great players like Michael
Jordan would have dropped 40 in the quarter just to show people
that they could not get to him.
Number 5 overall pick Shelden Williams was unimpressive in 33
minutes. Matched up almost entirely against training camp players
with no NBA experience he earned most of his points from the free
throw line and just did not seem to be particularly active on
either the boards or offense.
Utah had solid production from a pair of rookies. Both Ronnie
Brewer and Dee Brown were impressive with Brewer displaying an
all-around game that should earn him a long career. Brown showed
an impeccable release and great rotation on his jump shots and
put up 12 points in 16 minutes.
Check back this evening for a summary of today’s games.
