Hewitt dispatched sixth seed Alex Corretja of Spain, 6-4, 6-2, to advance to the semifinals at the Franklin Templeton Classic. Hewitt, playing in just his second ATP Tour tournament since a quarterfinal showing at the Australian Open and a first-round Davis Cup tie against Britain, is looking more like the player who has been atop the men's rankings for 68 consecutive weeks. "I'm getting better, that's the main thing, that's what I wanted," said Hewitt, who won this event in 2000. "That's why I came here to play." The 23-year-old [sic: he's 22!] Australian has yet to drop a set this week. "It's really been a good week so far," Hewitt said. "Hopefully, I can keep it going. I still feel like I can play a lot better, that's no doubt about it. I definitely can't ask for too much. I'm getting through my matches quite comfortably." In Saturday's semifinals, Hewitt will face American Taylor Dent, who cruised past Spain's David Sanchez, 6-1, 6-3, for his eighth consecutive match win. Dent won his second career title at Memphis two weeks ago. "It's going to be a very tough match," Hewitt said. "He's full of confidence, he's that kind of player. I think when he is confident, he plays extremely well. I'm going to have to play better than I have so far." Dent, who sits at a career-high No. 8 in the ATP Champions Race, has won 16 of 17 sets during his winning streak. He is looking forward to his third lifetime meeting with Hewitt, who has won both their previous encounters. "I've played a lot of the top guys, so it's not really new territory for me," Dent said. "It's always a great opportunity for me. There's not much I can do out there. I can't control winning or losing, so I'm going to go out there and hit the ball. Hopefully, I'll play the bigger points better than he does." Another Australian wild card reached the semifinals as Mark Philippoussis stormed back to upset third seed David Nalbandian of Argentina, 0-6, 6-3, 6-4. -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.csie.ntu.edu.tw) ◆ From: 218.162.17.67 ※ 編輯: rafter 來自: 140.112.7.59 (03/09 16:03)
