MARK Philippoussis will aid Lleyton Hewitt's recovery in
the race for Wimbledon fitness.
Floundering at 185th in the world, Philippoussis has agreed
to partner Davis Cup team-mate Hewitt in doubles at the Stella
Artois Championships at Queen's Club from June 6.
Both men have won the singles championships at the toffee
inner-London establishment club, but both now desperately need matchplay.
"It will be good for Lleyton and Flip (Philippoussis) to have
a hit in doubles," Hewitt's coach Roger Rasheed said.
"Lleyton usually likes to have a doubles match at Queen's
before he plays singles because he's usually coming straight off the clay.
"This year's a bit different with the injury."
Philippoussis will leave his Florida base next week to start
practising on English grass before contesting the Surbiton Challenger.
The former world No. 8 is still to learn if he will need a
wildcard to compete in the modest event, which runs during the
second week of the French Open.
