Hingis Thrills School Children In Dubai
Dubai, UAE, February 19th, 2006: Martina Hingis thrilled more than 200 children
when she visited the Dubai English Speaking School today.
Hingis, winner of the first Women's Dubai Tennis Championships title in 2001
and holder of five Grand Slam singles crowns, received an enthusiastic welcome
when she arrived to present an award to nine-year old Ziyan Kassam, winner of
a colouring competition held in conjunction with the Dubai Tennis
Championships.
"It was very exciting to meet Martina," said Ziyan. "I like to play tennis and
would like to be as good as her one day."
After giving the award, Martina spent time answering questions from many of the
children, responding to queries such as which was her favourite Grand Slam
(the Australian Open) to who has been her biggest idol in tennis (her mother,
who introduced her to the game and still acts as her coach). Then a beaming
Martina joined the pupils for a photo session in the grounds of the school.
The 25-year old Swiss, who reigned as world number one for 209 weeks and also
reached number one in doubles, recently returned to the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour
after retiring from the game in 2002 with a foot injury.
After reaching the semi-finals of her first event on Australia's Gold Coast,
she suffered a first round defeat by eventual champion Justine Henin-Hardenne
in Sydney. But she responded to that by marching all the way to the quarter-
finals of the Australian Open, her first Grand Slam since September 2002.
Most recently, she reached her first final since she began her comeback,
beating Maria Sharapova before finishing as runner-up to Elena Dementieva in
Tokyo.
Hingis said: "It was a great honour to be the first ever winner of the Women's
Open in Dubai and I have great memories of Dubai so it's really good to
return. I hope I play the best I can in the week to come."
The Dubai Tennis Championships is owned and organised by Dubai Duty Free and
takes place under the patronage of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum,
Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
Play in the WTA Tour event takes place at the Dubai Tennis Stadium from Monday
(February 20th), and continues from 27th February to 4th March with the ATP
event featuring Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Andre Agassi, Marat Safin and
Ivan Ljubicic.

事隔三年,再度看到妳站在球場上,揮灑著我熟悉的球拍和節奏。
不知道為什麼,眼淚靜靜滑落。
飛吧!再次起飛,永遠為妳加油。 Sweet-heart Martina Hingis
