[情報] Indians sign 16-year-old Czech native
CLEVELAND (TICKER) —The Cleveland Indians on Saturday signed catcher Martin
Cervenka, a 16-year-old native of the Czech Republic, to a non-drafted minor
league contract.
A righthanded hitter from Prague, Cervenka was signed by Peter Gahan, the
Indians’Australia and Europe scouting supervisor.
“Martin is a young, athletic catcher with a projectable body and an excellent
work ethic and aptitude,”Cleveland assistant general manager John Mirabelli
said.“These qualities along with his physical ability are definitely assets
for him as he starts his professional catching career.”
The Indians have agreed to a specific playing plan for Cervenka that will allow
him to complete high school in the Czech Republic.
Cervenka will continue to compete for his club team, Kotlarka, during the 2009
season before traveling to Goodyear, Arizona for extended spring training
during his school holidays.
He will spend the 2009 and 2010 summers at the Major League Baseball Academy in
Australia until his high school commitment has been completed at age 19.
