We've discussed for months about the potential problems in Cleveland when it comes to keeping some of their key players around beyond the 2011 season. Not only is outfielder Shin-Soo Choo due a raise via arbitration, so are shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera and closer Chris Perez. Grady Sizemore has a club option for next season at $9 million and right-hander Fausto Carmona, who has struggled most of the season, has a team option at $7 million. And Jim Thome's pending free agency and potential retirement is also on the docket. Without the Indians jumping back up closer to the payroll numbers of a couple of seasons ago, something has to give. On top of the above decisions, relievers Rafael Perez and Joe Smith are also up for arbitration, as is right-hander Justin Masterson. Sizemore could be traded if the club can find a taker despite his injury history, and newly-acquired Kosuke Fukudome will become a free agent once the Indians decide not to re-sign him by the November 15 deadline posted in his contract. The Tribe's 25-man roster is certain to look awfully different next season. Either that or owner Larry Dolan decides to party like it's 2009. - Jason A.
