Chile, who finished fourth in the South American qualifiers to win a spot in the World Youth Championship, went ahead in the eighth minute when forward Nicolas Canales met a cross from Jose Fuenzalida on a counter. The home team rallied hard and created scoring chances, but they had to wait until the 78th minute for the equalizer. Mizuno, coming off the bench at halftime, headed in a free-kick from Shunsuke Maeda, also a second-half substitute. Mizuno, who plays for JEF United Chiba, said, "I'm glad I could score at that time of the game. But I couldn't find the net again, although I had a few more chances. That's something I have to work on during our training camp before the tournament." "I cannot say that I am content with the outcome of the game," said Japan Under-20 coach Kiyoshi Okuma. "But our players didn't lose their focus to the end and showed what we've been trying to do as much as they could." He went on, "The game showed our players that it is not easy to win at international level. But the players played patiently and managed to level the game. That should bring them some confidence." The former boss of J. League outfit FC Tokyo added, "We'll study our opponents while working on improving our game in order to get good results in the World Youth tournament." Okuma will announce the final squad for the tournament on May 28. After that, the squad will train for three days in Niigata before leaving for the Netherlands. Japan will play hosts the Netherlands on June 10, Benin on June 15 and Australia on June 18 in the group stage in the World Championship. "In the tournament, we'd like to challenge the world without flinching.
