Yet Juventus have taken Serie A by storm in his absence, winning 14 matches out of 15, coasting into a 10-point lead in the table and winning their Champions League group stage. It also remains to be seen whether the 27-year-old will ever fully recover from the dislocated shoulder that he sustained in the pre-season Berlusconi Cup in August. Buffon himself has been taking a notably long time to return to first-team action and suggested that he is struggling mentally to get back to his old self again. "I still have a few psychological issues to deal with and I am not physically 100 per cent fit either," he confessed recently. It could be argued that with Juve doing very well without their first-choice guardian between the posts, and if the price is right, now could be the time to cash in on him.
