在去歐洲展開為期一個半月的旅遊前，Jerry Buss 今天跟記者談了將近一個小時，關於湖人球團日來大家關切的話題。以下為摘要：．關於湖人總教練的職缺，他口袋裡的名單鎖定了一些人選 ("We have a short list of names")，其中包括 Phil Jackson。其他名字他則不願透露。．他認為 Phil 想要重返 NBA，但也許不是在這個球季 ("I think he wants to return to coaching, but maybe not next season")。．進一步談論教練一事時，他說他還沒明確地說過他想要的就是禪師。他和 Mitch 將在近日內跟 Phil 正式就教練職務坐下來談。Buss 表示新教練的決定將不會拖托太久。另外，不論最後決定是誰，球團尋找的將是有成功經驗的人選，大概不願意去做個大的賭注 ("I don't know if I want to take a gamble on someone who hasn't had past success”)。．在湖人最近會去洽談的人選當中，將不包括目前有約在身或還在參加季後賽的教練。而球團將不會為了新教練的可能人選讓出手上的選秀權，並且不會有把球團股份給出去的可能 (外傳禪師想要擁有一部分湖人持股)。至於外界所傳的湖人將會給 Phil 一份平均一年一千萬美金的合約，Buss 今天間接證實，"I suspect we're going to pay some- thing relatively close to that, regardless of who the coach is." ．被問到球團有沒有可能把 Kobe 當作交易籌碼時，Buss 停頓了下後說他不想把 Kobe 給交易出去，但在球團整體利益的考量下，他保留這個可能性：I don't think anybody 　is untouchable. We would have to get awfully good value for some of the people on this team. I like the material on this team. But you know, when it comes right down to it, if you're offered something better than what you have , most people would take it. "Don't go off and write that I want to trade Kobe. I don't want to trade Kobe . And I really think that somebody would have to give me their franchise, their arena, and the city in order to get him. I just can't imagine anybody coming up with an offer that I'd be willing to do that. But I don't like to say never." ．他說如果他早知道 Shaq 願意減個六十磅的話，他可能在去年夏天會作出不同的決定。不過看來能夠刺激 Shaq 減肥的方法就是把他給交易出去。．他認為這個球季球團有很好的規劃，但進行過程中似乎一切能出錯的地方都發生了問題 (Everything that could have gone wrong did.
