Showed a safe pair of hands and made an excellent stop in the first half from Pezsko. Arbeloa – 6.5: Did not stop pressuring his opponents deep inside their own half. Always made himself available in attack to provide extra width. Puyol – 6.5: Rarely stretched in defence. Still, he was very alert and sharp with his tackles. Pique – 6.5: Read the game well and always on hand to intercept Poland’s advances further up the field. Did have a few lapses of concentration as he let either the ball or his man get away from him. Capdevila – 6.5: Very adventurous going forward. Had a few openings to drill in crosses into the box. Wasn’t really tested at the back. Xabi Alonso – 8: Went about his job quietly deep in his own half. Came to life after Xavi was substituted as he took over the conductor’s baton. Scored the third goal and provided the assist for Fabregas. Busquets – 7: Showed great control in tight spaces when his opponents tried to harry him off the ball. Often criticised, he didn’t put a foot wrong and even found space to roam forward. Xavi – 7.5: Every simple pass forward had a purpose. Exhibited his full array of passing arsenal with a wide variety of deliveries to split open the Polish defence. David Silva – 7.5: Constantly interchanged one-two’s with his team-mates and provided countless defence-splitting through balls. David Villa – 7: Caught offside a few times more than he would’ve liked. Scored with a typical poacher’s strike from close range. Iniesta – 8.5: Made the first goal, had a hand in the second with a gorgeous over-the-top through ball. Only lasted 40 minutes before being taken off with an injury precaution but absolutely unplayable in the entire time he was on the field. Substitutes: Pedro – 7.5: Had to work hard to get his goal. First made the assist for Torres before scoring with the most delicate of lobs with the outside of his left foot. Jesus Navas – 6.5: Used his searing pace to good effect and created headaches for the Polish defence everytime he had the ball. Sergio Ramos – 6.5: Spent the 35 minutes he was on the field inside the opposition half. Even had a few look-ins at goal. Fabregas – 7.5: Took just three minutes to get on the score sheet with a clinical one-on-one finish. Supplied the through ball that led to Torres’ goal.
