Lakers vs. Heat? Don’t bother Kobe with that
The anticipation began as soon as the NBA released this season’s schedule.
The date, not only highlighted on every calendar around because it’s
Christmas, but it quickly was circled by Lakers and Heat fans, the media and
KABC/7 alike. TV execs couldn’t have asked for a better gift.
The hype soon followed.
The Lakers vs. the Miami.
Kobe and Pau vs. The Big Three.
Championships vs. Decisions.
Southern California vs. South Beach.
All the talk barely elicits a yawn from Kobe Bryant.
“It’s another game,” he said. “I don’t think the masses understand that.
It’s just another game. It’s the Heat. I mean, Christmas morning, I’m
going to open presents with my kids. I’m going to take pictures of them
opening the presents. Then I’m going to come to the Staples Center and get
ready to work.”
Now, if the Lakers were playing the Boston Celtics on Dec. 25, that would be
a whole other Christmas story for Bryant.
“Now that’s a war,” Bryant said. “Boston is a great city to go to, all
the history. If you’re an opponent, they hate your (expletive) guts – like
New York, like Chicago, all those Eastern cities. That’s the one that gets
me excited.
“If you’re a basketball purist, that’s the (expletive) you want to see.”
