Hamburg, 15 May 2004
Press Conference with GUILLERMO CORIA
Coria – Ljubicic 3:6, 6:1, 6:4
Q: Did you expect such a difficult match against Ljubicic, or were you
surprised?
CORIA: No. I wasn’t very surprised because I knew that Ljubicic is a very
difficult opponent as you could from the 6:4 in the last set.
Q: How do your compare your level now as compared to earlier in the week?
CORIA: It was a very hard match. My best match was probably the match against
Ferrer. I know that I will have to play very good tennis to be able to beat
Federer.
Q: What would you like to do better?
CORIA: The same tactics as in the match against Ferrer: to be very
concentrated and win my service games, not to make too many mistakes and just
play my best tennis.
Q: Is it a big goal for you to get to No. 1?
CORIA: My dream is to become No. 1 in the world and I’m training to be able
to that. But, it’s going to be a tough match tomorrow because Federer has
won a lot of matches this year.
Q: In your mind who is the favourite tomorrow?
CORIA: I am (laughs). I know it’s going to be tough, but I never see myself
as loser. I always go to win the match.
Q: Is it a big goal for you to keep your winning streak and to overtake
Thomas Muster?
CORIA: My primary goal is to win Hamburg and Roland Garros and not that much
to beat Muster’s streak.
Q: We have the feeling that you played better in Monte Carlo. Do you agree?
CORIA: Yes, I played a little different but I didn’t have the same
opponents. The level here is much higher than in Monte Carlo.
Q: Does the fact that the final is best of 5 help you?
CORIA: It’s positive to play five sets because if I lose the first two, I
can still turn the match around, but my goal is to play my best.
