Day Two at Australian Open 2005 is shaping as Argentina's day as three of
the country's top male tennis players cruised through to the second-round
of the tournament without dropping a set between them.(這個紀錄被現在陷入
五盤大戰的 Nalbandian 給破壞了 XD)
No.6 seed Guillermo Coria led the way by thrashing Czech Tomas Berdych
6-2 6-4 6-0 in the opening match on Rod Laver Arena.
The 2004 French Open runner up, who has never been past the fourth-round
in Melbourne, needed only 96 minutes to record a convincing win.
It wasn't long before No.12 seed Guillermo Canas and No.25 seed Juan
Ignacio Chela joined him, both eliminating Australians.
With No.9 seed David Nalbandian in action later on Tuesday and No.10 seed
Gaston Gaudio progressing through to the second-round on Day One, Argentina
looks set to once again be a major player come the business end of the
tournament.
Canas downed wildcard recipient Chris Guccione 6-4 6-2 7-6 on Vodafone Arena
and will now be looking to better last year's fourth-round appearance at
Melbourne Park - which was the first time he had made it beyond the third-
round since first playing the event in 1999.
Chela, a quarter-finalist at the French Open, has never been past the third-
round in four previous Australian Opens but avoided a potential first-round
upset against big-serving Australian Wayne Arthurs.
The 33-year-old Arthurs, playing possibly his last Australian Open, tried
hard but went down in three tight sets 6-4 7-6 (7-4) 7-6 (7-1).
