UMAG, Croatia -- Second-seeded Guillermo Coria rallied past
former champion Felix Mantilla 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 to reach the
Croatia Open quarterfinals on Wednesday.
Coria started poorly, unable to hold serve until the sixth
game, and lost the first set.
But the Argentine rallied in the second, breaking at 2-1
and 5-2 on a series of line-scraping winners.
Mantilla, the Open winner in 1997, needed medical treatment
for his right foot before the third set but Coria held the
momentum for breaks at 2-1 and 4-1 to win the second-round
match.
Coria will face seventh-seeded Juan Carlos Ferrero in the
quarters after the Spaniard defeated Novak Djokovic of
Serbia-Montenegro 6-4, 6-2.
Fifth-seeded Jiri Novak staved off two match points to
overcome Spaniard Albert Portas, 6-0, 4-6, 7-5, and will
face fellow Czech Lukas Dlouhy in the next round. Dlouhy
defeated qualifier Ilia Bozoljac of Serbia-Montenegro 6-3,
6-2.
