Coria Top Seed Into Quarterfinals
2003 Sopot champion Guillermo Coria advanced to the quarterfinals
with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 win over Felix Mantilla at the Idea Prokom Open
on Wednesday.
Coria is the top seed remaining after No. 2 seed Gaston Gaudio withdrew
and No. 1 seed Mariano Puerta fell to Jarkko Nieminen in the first round.
In the final set, the third seeded Coria broke Mantilla in the first
game and once again in the last game.
He served a total of seven aces and took advantage of his fourth match
point for the win after one hour, 49 minutes.
Coria won the Croatia Open in Umag last week and takes a seven match
winning streak into the quarterfinals against No. 7 seed Igor Andreev.
Andreev advanced after Razvan Sabau was forced to retire with an elbow
injury while Andreev was on top 6-3, 5-1.
French teen Gael Monfils defeated Juan Monaco 6-4, 7-6(5) in one hour,
59 minutes to also reach the quarterfinals.
In the second set, both players lost their serves twice going into the
tie-break where Monfils won the match on his first match point
Monfils' previous best results this year came in Miami where he reached
the Round of 16 and the third round of Wimbledon.
The 18-year-old from Paris is on track to reach his first career final.
He next faces No. 8 seed Victor Hanescu from Romania.
