8-GUILLERMO CORIA (ARG) vs. ROBBY GINEPRI (USA)
Both these men have played for numerous hours already and are both coming
off hard-fought, five-set victories. Fortunately, they are blessed with
strong legs, which should guarantee that this contest will be entertaining
at least until the three-hour mark, when it will turn into a limping battle
for survival. The Argentine Coria is one of the tour's quickest player, both
with his hands and feet. He has an excellent return, can counterpunch with
blinding speed, and has power off the both sides.
Ginepri plays much like Coria does but is slightly more powerful with his
serve and is more willing to win points from the net. Coria is a far more
experienced big-match player, and there is thought hovering around the
Stadium that Ginepri may have gone as far as he is capable of. But that's
not the feeling here because the Georgian has become a calm, focused player
who plays within himself and is brimming with confidence. While I don't see
Ginepri advancing any further than the semis, he's due for one more big m
oment under the big top, and it will be here, when he upsets Coria in four
difficult sets.
