Ready, Steady, Go! Nalbandian Embarks on Second Career
小班愛拉力賽車眾所皆知 這次他自己上場開了 雖然成績不算太好 他希望下次有機會再開
會有更好的成績 下週他會參加維也納男網賽
David Nalbandian has turned his love for cars into an off-court activity. The
World No. 22 partnered professional driver Marcos Ligato and launched the Tango
Rally Team, which competes at the Rally World Championships.
The 2005 Tennis Masters Cup winner likes to travel and follow the speed live
and direct. Occasionally, he has acted as co-driver in a couple of local
competitions in Argentina.
However prior to last weekend, the former World No. 3 (March 20, 2006) had
never made it to 'fully-fledged driver' status at a professional race.
Nalbandian made his debut at the steering wheel in Andalgala, a small city of
Catamarca, in north-east Argentina. The 25-year-old had not expected to get
into a car – he merely came to support his team in the 2007 Andalgala Masters.
"I wasn't thinking about driving, but I ended up doing it. I hope next time I
will have better results," Nalbandian said.
Joined by pro Gabriel Pozzo, Nalbandian drove a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX
and lost a knockout round against fellow Argentinean and would-be champion
Alejandro Cancio, who defeated Ligato in the finals. The driving route was
almost one-mile long.
"I've just come to have fun. I take it as an entertainment during my spare
time. I don't think I'll do this professionally, at least yet," explained
Nalbandian.
"He's doing great. I think he picked up his level progressively and finished in
good rhythm," commented Pozzo.
Nalbandian will return to the ATP circuit next week in Vienna, Austria, where
he will only manoeuvre his racquet in the hope of securing his fifth career ATP
title.
