Round 4(132) Derek McCallum 2B B/T:L/R

In Wednesday's fourth round, the Twins took Derek McCallum, a second baseman
for the Minnesota Golden Gophers, with the 132nd overall selection. McCallum,
a 6-foot, 190-pound junior from Shoreview, Minn., paced the Gophers in
hitting with a .409 average, hitting 18 homers and driving in 86 runs -- all
team highs.
Round 5, Tobias Streich, C, West Virginia: Streich was drafted by the Oakland
A's back in 2007 in the 26th round, but decided to attend West Virginia as a
freshman in 2008. As a sophomore this year, Streich batted .322, driving in
57 runs. He also hit six homers and 16 doubles. In two seasons behind the
plate, Streich has thrown out 33 of 86 runners attempting to steal.
Round 6, Christopher Herrmann, C, Univ. of Miami: Like Streich, Herrmann was
also previously drafted, as he went in the 10th round of last year's Draft to
the Baltimore Orioles. As a junior with the Hurricanes, Herrmann's .341
average was tops on the team. He played in all 60 games this year, and drove
in 44 runs while drawing 41 walks.
Round 7, Brad Stillings, RHP, Kent State: The numbers for Stillings may not
jump off the page (6-4, 7.52 ERA as a junior), but he certainly has the
stuff, as is evident by the no-hitter he threw this April against Toledo. His
main pitch is a fastball that he throws up to 95 mph.
Round 8, Brian Dozier, SS, Sothern Mississippi: Dozier suffered a broken
collarbone in April and has not played with the Golden Eagles on their run to
the College World Series, but he will be joining them this week. During the
regular season, Dozier hit more for average (.394) than power (four home
runs) as he drove in 39 runs.
Round 9, Nick Lockwood, SS, Jesuit HS (Fla.): Lockwood, a high school senior,
will have to choose between the Twins or the University of Southern Florida,
where he committed to as a junior. In his senior year, Lockwood hit .380 with
26 RBIs.
Round 10, Blake Dean, LF, Louisiana State: As a sophomore last season, Dean
was named a First-Team All-American by Baseball America and was the SEC
Tournament MVP. Dean's 15 homers this year were second most on the Tigers,
and he led the team with 65 RBIs.
Round 11, Ronnie Richardson, CF, Lake Region HS (Fla.): Like Lockwood, the
5-foot-6 Richardson will also have a decision to make: whether to stay in
state and attend the University of Central Florida, or join the Twins
organization. He also played some shortstop in high school.
Round 12, Tony Davis, LHP, Univ. of Florida: Davis, a 5-foot-9 lefty
reliever, put up impressive numbers as a junior this year, going 5-0 with the
Gators while posting a 2.25 ERA in 32 appearances. Opponents hit just .190
against him.
Round 13, Clarence Davis, SS, Campbell HS (Ga.): Davis, the third high school
payer taken by the Twins on day two, has already signed a national letter of
intent to attend Georgia Perimeter College, a two-year college.
Round 14, Matthew Tone, LHP, SUNY Cortland: After finishing his junior season
8-0 with a 3.07 ERA, Tone was named to the American Baseball Coaches
Association (ABCA)/Rawlings Division III All-America third-team. Tone struck
out 84 batters in 67.1 innings of work.
Round 15, Steven Liddle, OF, Vanderbilt: Liddle was second on the Commodores
with a .348 batting average, and tied for the team lead in home runs with 10
during his sophomore season. Steve Liddle, the Twins bench coach, is his
uncle.
Round 16, Dakota Watts, RHP, Cal State Stanislaus: Watts has bounced around
between three different schools in three years. He started at Feather River
College as a freshman, then played at Delta College last year before playing
his junior season at Cal State Stanislaus, where he went 8-4 with a 3.65 ERA
in 12 appearances. He's got good size, standing at 6-foot-6, 205.
Round 17, Nicholas Tindall, C, O'Fallon Township HS (Ill.): Tindall set a
school record with 18 career home runs, hitting the most recent in his team's
2-1 victory over Naperville Central in the Super-Sectional Championship. He
hit .518 in 142 plate appearances this season.
Round 18, Beau Stoker, SS, Bishop Ward HS (Kan.): Stoker has been a part of a
Bishop Ward program that has won six straight Kansas 4A state championships,
dating back to 2003. He was named to the Kansas Association of Baseball
Coaches 4A All-State selection.
Round 19, John Stilson, RHP, Texarkana CC: Stilson was one of two Texarkana
pitchers to be named to the 2009 Region XIV East All-Conference team. His
10-1 record and 2.20 ERA were complimented by 78 strikeouts in 73.2 innings.
Round 20, Thomas Mackoul, LHP, UC Riverside: Mackoul was an interesting
selection here, as the 6-foot-3 reliever made just two appearances this year
for the Highlanders. But Minnesota scouts have kept an eye on Mackoul since
high school.
Round 21, Kane Holbrooks, RHP, Texas State: Holbrooks went an impressive 10-1
in his senior season with the Bobcats, including one complete game. He was a
workhorse for Texas State, pitching a team-high 101.1 innings.
Round 22, Buddy Munroe, C, Univ. of Florida: Another catcher drafted by the
Twins on the second day, and the second Gator as well. In his junior season,
Munroe played in 51 of 64 games, hitting .270 and driving in 26 runs.
Round 23, Eduardo Encinosa, RHP, Miami Coral Park HS: The 6-foot-5, 225-pound
Encinosa reaches 87-91 mph and has an 11/5 curveball. He allowed just eight
hits in 13.1 innings pitched for Coral Park.
Round 24, Mario Hollands, LHP, UC Santa Barbara: Following his first year in
which he was named the Big West Freshman Pitcher of the Year for a seven-win
season, Hollands went 6-6 in his sophomore campaign. He threw a complete-game
one-hit shutout earlier in the season for the Gauchos.
Round 25, Tony Bryant, RHP, Kennewick HS (Wash.): At 6-foot-7, Bryant was the
tallest player selected by Minnesota in the first two days of the Draft. At
Kennewick, he posted a 1.22 ERA in 34.1 innings. There's a chance he may play
for Oregon State out of high school.
Round 26, Michael Giovenco, RHP, North Park (Ill.) Univ.: Another pitcher
with good size (6-foot-6, 235). Giovenco led the Vikings with a 7-3 record in
11 starts, recording 87 strikeouts in 72.1 innings. He was named to the 2009
ABCA/Rawlings All-Central Region First Team.
Round 27, Eric Decker, CF, Minnesota: The Twins go local here again with
another Gopher. Decker is a multi-sport athlete at Minnesota, as he's also
the star wide receiver. In all likelihood, he'll be returning to school for
his senior season.
Round 28, Pat Light, RHP, Christian Brothers Academy (N.J.): The senior
right-handed starter didn't lose a game in his career at CBA, including a 9-0
mark this season. He also played basketball.
Round 29, James Wright, LHP, Los Alamitos HS (Calif.): This lefty is listed
at 6-foot-2, 220 pounds and has great movement on his breaking pitches.
Round 30, Trayvone Johnson, C, no school: Drafted in 2006 by the Phillies in
the 46th round, Johnson has not played competitively for over two years, but
has been working out with one of Minnesota's area scouts in California. His
arm strength may lead to experimentation as a pitcher as well.
