There really is no crying in baseball. Not when it comes to what teams are
worth and the money they earn.
The average Major League Baseball team is now worth $491 million, 2% more
than last year. In 2009, smack in the middle of the worst economy in seven
decades, baseball's 30 franchises turned in a record-high operating income
(earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization) of $522
million, an average of $17.4 million per team.
The NBA had a tough 2008-09 season. This one could be even worse.

The ball took some bad bounces for the National Basketball Association during
the past year.
With their wallets pinched by job losses, pay cuts and higher food and
gasoline prices, basketball fans are thinking twice about plucking down $50
for your typical NBA seat. Teams like the Indiana Pacers, Minnesota
Timberwolves and New Jersey Nets were forced to slash ticket prices to lure
fans to games in the midst of a recession. The high end of the market also
worsened: Revenue from pricey club seats and luxury suites fell for the
Detroit Pistons, Miami Heat and New York Knicks. That's a problem for the NBA
given that player costs (including bonuses and benefits) increased to $2.3
billion during the 2008-09 season from $2.2 billion the previous year.
Values are down and labor issues will soon roil the league, but pro football
faces a far larger long-term business problem.

Last year proved that even the blue chip National Football League has not
been immune to the recession.
NFL team values fell 2% last season to an average of $1.02 billion, the first
decline since Forbes began tracking the league's finances in 1998, with 21 of
the league's 32 teams seeing their worths drop. (Note: Our valuations are
enterprise values, and include revenue from stadiums but not the value of the
real estate.) Team values slipped because the bad economy has reduced demand
(there are fewer people with the cash to buy a team, and borrowing has become
more difficult) and less nonbroadcasting revenue for many teams.

MLB是唯一能在這幾年經濟不景氣的情況下還能成長的聯盟
也難怪Selig能意氣風發的說現在是棒球界的黃金盛世
NFL雖然球隊資產縮水但靠著轉播合約還可以保持水準以上的收入
最慘的是NBA，大環境不佳加上球員支出上升
這些因素加起來，這陣子NBA有減隊風聲傳出也就不那麼讓人意外了
