But I’ve also been told that the Mariners, in weeks leading up to these meetings, have had talks with the Pittsburgh Pirates concerning first baseman/right fielder Garrett Jones. Now, let me repeat: this is just one of many conversations the Mariners have had with various teams, but I’m told it got beyond the mere single phone call/hang up and that some actual names were bandied about between the squads. 當然消息來源是不確定的，也有可能是來自球隊高層，但確實有跟海盜談過，或許是問問看 Garrett Jones 是不是可以賣，然後海盜提出這樣的 counter offer 也未可知，Z 應該知道我們不需要特別補牛，但海盜想賣 Hanrahan 很久了，現在跟他談到交易，對方不把他包進去一起談實在也很奇怪。當然這筆交易水手陣營不會有任何人喜歡，Jones相較於Jaso 根本就不算升級，有啦，薪水升了一級。不過從洽詢能守一壘跟外野的Jones 來看，Z 的頭腦還沒有壞掉，這是正確的補強方向，所以之前 Napoli 與 Martin 應該頂多是有興趣但不會死心踏地去追，這是好事。但往壞的方向去想，他老大又不打算花錢簽 FA 了，難不成真的是一朝被腿姬咬，十年不砸錢？ ◎Behind the Plate 至於捕手，我們其實也不是完全不缺，特別是 Montero 要往 DH 方向發展，Z想要的捕手長這樣： “Right now, we’ll have Montero and Jaso catch,” Zduriencik said. “Both guys have their skill set they bring to the table. Neither guy is what you would call a defensive receiver. Both of them are offensive catchers. We’ll have our ears open certainly to see how the right type of catcher would fit. You don’t want to take away their ABs right now just for a defensive catcher. Our needs are, quite frankly, offense.
