XD Marlins' Josh Johnson, who had Tommy John surgery in 2007, is cheering for Stephen Strasburg By Joe Capozzi Palm Beach Post Staff Writer Updated: 8:12 p.m. Friday, Aug. 27, 2010 Posted: 6:51 p.m. Friday, Aug. 27, 2010 ATLANTA — Marlins pitcher Josh Johnson has never met Stephen Strasburg, but he's cheering for the Nationals rookie to have a fast recovery from a season-ending elbow injury. If Strasburg ends up having elbow-ligament replacement surgery, Johnson said he hopes the Nationals' pitching phenom understands there's a good chance he can come back strong in 2012. "It's a tough day for him for sure, but I've gone through it and come out on the upside. That means there's some hope, for sure,' Johnson said. Johnson had the same procedure — commonly refered to as Tommy John surgery — on Aug. 3, 2007. He returned to action on July 10, 2008, and has since compiled a 33-11 record with a 2.98 ERA over 73 starts. "It's very successful surgery now, but it's all about putting the work in,' he said, referring to the often slow-paced rehab process that typically ranges 12 to 18 months. "Sometimes guys put the work in and it doesn't work out. But if you're one of the lucky ones, make sure you put the work in. That's the big thing.' Johnson said he feared the worst for Strasburg when the Nationals pitcher was initially diagnosed with a strained forearm — the same diagnoses Johnson had before doctors found he'd injured the elbow ligament. "Right now is the worst time because he's right before surgery,' he said, referring to the anxiety he says Strasburg is likely experiencing. Johnson, a two-time All Star since the surgery, said Strasburg can expect a few scary moments in the rehab if he has the surgery. ---------------------以下沒翻譯 之後有時間在修文補完吧...--------------------- "As soon as you come to from all the medication, you go to wherever you're rehabbing at. For me it was in Jupiter,' he said. "They unwrap your elbow and take it out of a sling. You're elbow is huge, like two or three times as big as it's supposed to be. That's when you're like, 'Can I ever throw again?' ' After that, he said, it can be tough dealing with the slow healing process. "The first four months are the longest because you can't do anything,' he said. "I wasn't even allowed to run for 2 months. They let me ride a (stationary) bike for 15 minutes a day and that was it. "You do the same stuff every single day but after four months you start throwing. Then you start looking forward to coming to the field.' Johnson's injury was different from Strasburg's. Johnson said his elbow ligament was stretched; Strasburg's ligament is torn. Johnson said he has never met Strasburg, but he'd be willing to talk to the pitcher if he wanted advice. "The only thing I can say is don't take it for granted. Always make sure you're doing everything you can to make sure you come back,' Johnson said. "Don't say 'it'll heal itself' and not do the work. I'm sure he's not like that anyway. I'm sure he got to where he's at now by working hard and doing all the littl things.'
