The New York Knicks would not have even come close to mounting a comeback from 22 points down in Game 1 of the 2026 Eastern Conference Finals against the Cleveland Cavaliers if it weren’t for Jalen Brunson. Brunson scored 15 points in the fourth and became the primary catalyst of the team’s comeback efforts , but they would not have completed that had it not been for Landry Shamet’s contributions. In what ended up being a 115-104 win for the Knicks over the Cavs in OT, Shamet played some crucial minutes for New York and even made some big shots. Shamet hit a huge three towards the end of the fourth to tie the game at 99, and then in overtime, he basically hit the dagger — extending the Knicks’ lead to nine, 110-101, to send the Cavs spiraling deeper towards the abyss. Time and time again, Shamet has proven himself to be a big-time player for the Knicks. And he got his much deserved praise from captain Brunson as well as head coach Mike Brown after drilling some huge shots for New York in their Game 1 win. “He was fantastic. He was the difference in the ballgame tonight on both ends of the floor,” Brown said in his postgame presser, via SNY’s Knicks Videos. “He played big time. That’s just who he is.
