另外，Henson 在執教新墨西哥州大學之前，其實是伊利諾大學的教練。他執教伊利諾二十一年，是伊利諾史上最多勝教頭，最輝煌戰績就是八九年最後四強那次，Henson 後來因伊利諾戰績下滑而宣布退休，但沒多久又在新墨西哥州大重起爐灶，因此這次也有人說他如果解決健康問題，還會再出山，畢竟他離八百勝只有咫尺之遙。但在伊利諾本季情勢大好之際，聽到這名老教練退休，還是頗令人感慨的。以下資訊為 hyperion 兄提供，讓大家參考： Lou Henson is the winningest coach in Illinois basketball history with 423 victories. During his 21 seasons from 1976-96, Henson put the Fighting Illini in the national spotlight, making 12 NCAA appearances, including a trip to the NCAA Final Four during the 1988-89 season. In all, his Illini team's made 16 postseason appearances. He led the Illini to a Big Ten co-championship in 1984 and was named ESPN's National Coach of the Year as well as the Big Ten Coach of the Year in 1993. Besides the Final Four appearance in 1989, a year in which the Illini posted a school-record 31-5 mark, he coached the Illini to nine consecutive 20-win seasons from 1982-91 and averaged better than 20 wins per season.
