Bad news 14-03-2004
I have just returned from the hospital. Bad news. I have a stress reaction in
my left wrist and have to withdraw from the Indian Wells tournament.
When I was at 6-1 and 1-1 yesterday during my match against Angelika Roesch, I
started to feel some pain in my left wrist. Especially during my backhands.
But at that time one deosn't think about withdrawing and I did manage to
finish the match.
But when I woke up this morning, I had a lot of pain. I immediately went to
the hopsital for a scan and it didn't really reveal good news. On the contrary,
the stress reaction meant I had to withdraw from the tournament, which is
really sad. The only thing I can do now is rest a lot and have the injury be
treated properly.
It is still unclear how long I will be out of competition. Two weeks at least
and then I can play the Miami tournament already, but it might be six weeks as
well. The match against Lleyton in Bree halfway April will surely be no problem
and I should be making it into the Fed Cup against Croatia.
Right now, however, I cannot play and shouldn't be playing any tennis, which
doesn't mean I won't be doing anything. I can keep my form by running and
cycling. And I couldn't have a better place to have an injured wrist treated
than in Indian Wells where all the physiotherapists of WTA are. And I will of
course be supporting Lleyton, who plays his first match, against Johansson,
later on.
How is Belgium meanwhile? I heard the weather still isn't what it should be?
Over here, things are quite different. Yesterday we had 38 degrees! That kind
of heat might be a bit too much for me. I have used quite a lot of sun oil!
See you soon... hopefully with better news!
