有一句大學足球的名言是:
"In the East, college football is a cultural exercise. On the West Coast, it is
a tourist attraction. In the Midwest, it is cannibalism. But in the South,
college football is a religion, and every Saturday is a holy day."
NCAA football在中西部跟南部是一種狂熱的運動,球場動輒容納8萬到10萬人. 這些人一場
球下來的消費就不知道多少. 加上一年到頭不斷的賣各式各樣的週邊商品,想不賺錢都難.
而我猜測在算球隊收入的時候沒有算進校友的捐款. 因為校友捐款支票是開給學校,金額會
被算進學校整體的募款額度裡. 像USC的校友會是有名的勢力龐大,前幾年蓋的籃球場Galen
Center就是校友Louis Galen捐了五千萬美金生出來的. Oaklahoma State的足球場Boone
Pickens Stadium也是能源大亨Boone Pickens買單的. 這些金額都不會被算在體育部的營
收裡.
