噗...XD ===============新聞原文============== 原始網址:http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/22/sports/baseball/22homer.html May 22, 2008 A Home Run, Umpire Says By TYLER KEPNER For the second time in three games at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday, umpires missed a home run call that could have been made correctly with the use of instant replay. On Sunday, they negated a homer by the Mets’ Carlos Delgado. This time, the Yankees’ Alex Rodriguez was robbed. Rodriguez, who had homered in the third inning of an eventual 8-0 victory, came up in the sixth against Baltimore’s Lance Cormier. He drove a ball to right-center field, and it rose until caroming off a yellow staircase to the bleachers. The ball bounced back to the field and was ruled to be in play. Rodriguez, who had slid safely into second, protested. The umpires conferred but did not reverse the call. Asked if he had seen a replay, the crew chief Tim Welke said, “We just did and we made a mistake.” Replays showed the ball striking the side of the staircase a few feet behind the fence and perhaps four feet above it. Welke explained that the umpires thought the ball had hit the top of the wall. “We want to be perfect,” he said. “We weren’t perfect tonight.” Manager Joe Girardi said he favored replay for home run calls, a measure that general managers voted in November to explore. Baseball officials are developing proposals for its possible implementation. On Sunday, Delgado hit a ball that clipped the bottom of the foul pole in left field. After initially ruling it a home run, umpires reversed the call and ruled a foul ball. Replays showed otherwise. Asked if he favored replay, Rodriguez said: “Well, I did tonight. I didn’t want it the other night against the Mets. I’m torn.” The Yankees’ Mike Mussina made his feelings known in a message he wrote on the dry-erase board at his locker: “Balls that hit the yellow stairs are usually homers. Not tonight.”
