It’s time to take a clear-eyed look at his : career as GM of the Yankees. Since he’s been named GM, the Yankees have been : in six World Series and won four, though none since 2000. It’s fair to say : that the foundation (Derek Jeter, Andy Pettitte, Mariano Rivera, Jorge Posada : and Bernie Williams) responsible for the World Series was in place before : Cashman took over. They were low-risk, high-reward moves, and : generally he did an adequate job. Scott Brosius, Mike Stanton and the like were : solid, low-risk moves. 第一階段為了使洋基成為冠軍勁旅 Cashman的工作是把漏洞補滿找來低風險高報酬的球員而這些球員也普遍能做好他們的工作比如Scott Brosius, Mike Stanton等等類似球員 : Second, around 2000-2001, the Yankees started going for the big splash to get : back to World Champions caliber, as evidenced by the signings of Giambi, : Pavano, Wright and Sheffield, and the trade for Jeff Weaver. These weren’t the : best years for Cashman, as most of his signings were big-money disappointments. 第二階段 2000~2001左右洋基開始灑大錢來維持冠軍陣容簽下Giambi,Pavano, Wright and Sheffield 又交易來Jeff Weaver 然而由於這些球員大多令人失望因此這幾年對Cashman來說並不好 : Third, most recently, Cashman’s philosophy has been to mostly avoid the big : free agent signings, choosing instead to rebuild from the farm and stockpile : pitchers. That’s not to say the Yankees won’t be players in free agency, but : it does mean he wants the bedrock of his team to be home grown.
