Re: [轉錄] [情報] Lance Berkman to Yanks?
Yankees consider trade for Berkman
Lance Berkman does not directly fit any of the Yankees' greatest needs.
However, his price both in dollars and/or prospects has fallen so low that
the Yankees are definitely looking hard whether to acquire the switch-hitter.
The Yankees philosophy right now is this: They have some money to spend.
Almost every other team in the majors doesn't. So they are telling
organizations hungry to move high-priced players to call and make their best
offer. Translation: We can take some of your money headaches, but if we do we
are not going to give up much in prospects.
By no later than 4 p.m. tomorrow, the Yankees will see what most appeals to
them from his overpriced buffet and pick an item or two.
This is why they dropped out of the Adam Dunn sweepstakes: Because the
Nationals were not willing to take marginal prospects just to get rid of the
money. The same might go for Toronto and Scott Downs.
So for now the Yanks are seeing if they could use their financial might to
act as vultures. So while they claim they are feeling no pressure to address
the rotation, the Yanks are at least looking at Ted Lilly to see if the Cubs
would essentially give him away in exchange for the Yanks taking the $4
million or so left on his contract. That, though, is not as much of a
frontburner item as Berkman.
When it comes to position players, the Yanks actually would prefer either a
supplemental type who either plays the corner infield (to rest Alex Rodriguez
on occasion) or bats righty and plays the corner outfield (to put Curtis
Granderson on the bench against most lefties). Berkman is neither of these.
He used to play the outfield, but at 34 with a body breaking down, he has
been exclusively a first baseman this year. He is a switch-hitter, but he was
hitting just .188 against southpaws with one homer in 64 at-bats. Also,
Berkman has been terrible on the road this year, hitting just .194 away from
Minute Maid Park.
The problems don't end there: Berkman is playing in the easiest division in
the majors and would be asked to come to the AL East. He has never played any
place other than with Houston. And he has never served as a full-time DH,
which would be his main duty as a Yankee.
However, with the trade yesterday of Roy Oswalt, the Astros have clearly
indicated to the sport that even previously intractable owner Drayton McLane
believes it is rebuilding time. Berkman is owed about $5.5 million the rest
of the year plus a $2 million buyout on a $15 million option for next season.
It is unlikely that the Yanks would take on the whole $7.5 million. But they
are probably the only team in the majors that would consider taking on even
half and Houston might be happy to put that money away to use for the draft
or an international sign or for next year's roster.
Berkman would essentially fill the role the Yanks had envisioned for Nick
Johnson, regular DH and occasional fill-in first baseman for Mark Teixeira.
He is a veteran bat with plenty of playoff experience and he is pals with
Andy Pettitte. He is having his worst season at .240 with 13 homers and 49
RBIs. But in his last 18 games, Berkman has hit .274 with six homers in 64
at-bats. He also is the kind of patient hitter the Yanks always like and they
would be hoping that the intensity of a championship hunt would energize him
for a strong finish.
現金人:我們只負責出錢不出人(人要用來換RP跟工具人...嘿嘿)
所以國民蛋之所以破局是因為國民要的是人,現金人不想扔就沒得換了...
TOR的Scott Downs.也可能是因為這原因不再去追了..
Berkman如果交易來預定是當DH,及幫鐵爺代班1B....
