(4) @JeffPassan: The New York Yankees are acquiring right-hander Frankie Montas and right-handed reliever Lou Trivino from the Oakland A’s, sources tell ESPN. First was Andrew Benintendi. Then was Scott Effross. And now the Yankees get Montas to join their rotation. 4.1. @JackCurryYES: For Montas and Trivino, Yankees parted with Sears, Waldichuk, Bowman and Medina. 4.2. @Ken_Rosenthal: Waldichuk was Yankees’ No 5 prospect, per @MLBPipeline. Medina was No. 10, Sears No. 20, Bowman No. 21. Bowman is a second baseman. Others are pitchers. Earlier today, Yankees traded No. 7 prospect, RHP Hayden Wisneski, to Cubs. (5) @JeffPassan: The New York Yankees are finalizing a deal to acquire right-handed reliever Scott Effross from the Chicago Cubs, sources tell ESPN. 5.2. @Ken_Rosenthal: Cubs acquiring RHP Hayden Wesneski for Effross, source tells @TheAthletic. Yankees’ No. 7 prospect, per @MLBPipeline. 5.3. @Feinsand: Effross is a 28-year-old RH reliever who is under club control through 2027. He has a 2.66 ERA and 50 strikeouts in 44 innings this season with the Cubs. (6) @Joelsherman1: Effross fits the Yankee bullpen profile in that he has an elite pitch -- in this case both his slider (.157 BA in ABs that end in that pitch) and changeup (.094). The loss of King/Green, uncertainty of Britton returning made pen an area of need. (7) @BryanHoch: Luis Severino played catch on the field today. Aaron Boone on how it went: "I passed by him, I'm like, 'How'd it go?' He gave me a thumbs up. Good start to the throwing progression." Now on the 60-day IL, Severino last pitched July 13, so we won't see him until mid-September. (8) @MaxTGoodman: If you're curious about Carlos Espinal, here are his numbers this year: - 2.27 ERA over 22 appearances with Double-A Somerset - 3.46 ERA in six outings with Triple-A SWB He's a 25-year-old right-hander, btw. (9) @MaxTGoodman: First impression, really like this Scott Effross trade for the #Yankees. Effross is under team control until 2028, bringing another filthy pitch mix (and unique delivery) to the bullpen. This reliever is elite at missing barrels and getting batters to chase as well. (10) @MaxTGoodman: Josh Donaldson is now 2-for-27 (.074) with 9 K in his last eight games. He's hitting .191 (26-for-136) with 47 K and 4 HR in his last 38 games. (11) @ktsharp: Yankees have 4 losses by more than 3 runs this season. That's the fewest in MLB. Every other team has at least 10 losses by more than 3 runs this season. (12) @ktsharp: Aaron Judge in July: .333/.446/.807, 32 RBI Judge is the first Yankee since Mickey Mantle in June 1957 to have a calendar month with at least: .330 BA/ .440 OBP/ .800 SLG/ 30 RBI (13) @ktsharp: Clay Holmes: 1st HR allowed this season (14) @ktsharp: Entering today, Clay Holmes had faced 178 batters. That was the most batters faced among all MLB pitchers that hadnt allowed a HR this season.
