(1) @BryanHoch: Clarke Schmidt (shoulder) said he feels good, one day after
throwing 24 pitches in a bullpen. Yankees starter for tomorrow at Phillies is
TBD; that could be Schmidt.
(2) @JackCurryYES: J.C. Escarra, the former Uber driver who is one of the best
stories of the spring, has hit .368 w/ 3 HRs and has a stranglehold on the
Yankees’backup catcher position. But the 29-year old said, “I’m not thinking
about it yet. I just want to get through the next week or so.”
(3) @MaxTGoodman: With 10 days left in spring training, it's looking more and
more likely that Ben Rice, J.C. Escarra and Yoendrys Gómez will be on the
Yankees' Opening Day roster.
If that's the case, then only a few roster spots would still up for grabs ...
there's the last bullpen spot (assuming Leiter Jr./Hamilton are good to go) and
the last bench spot (after Escarra, Grisham and Peraza with Rice in at DH).
Trades can obviously change this entire equation. But NY's roster internally is
coming together.
(4) @BryanHoch: Paul Goldschmidt exited after three innings with a sore back.
He said he has been dealing with it for a couple of days and didn’t want to
push it.
Goldschmidt said he has “zero” concerns about being ready for Opening Day.
(5) @BryanHoch: Yoendrys Gomez has thrown nine scoreless innings this spring.
His velocity is up & he's throwing strikes. Aaron Boone stopped short of
guaranteeing him a roster spot but said the team is "excited about the steps
YoGo has made."
