Re: Trade Rumor
Los Angeles Times
Baseball sources said the Dodgers have come closest to getting Washington
Nationals outfielder Alfonso Soriano. The Nationals dropped their asking
price, but it is still too much for the Dodgers... The Dodgers also have
had serious discussions with the Chicago Cubs about pitcher Greg Maddux.
Los Angeles Times
A potential deal for Baltimore slugger Miguel Tejada was on life support
Sunday, moving the focus of the Angels' pursuit of an impact bat before
today's trading deadline to Washington slugger Alfonso Soriano... The Angels
have also had trade talks involving third basemen Aramis Ramirez of the
Chicago Cubs and Chad Tracy of the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Los Angeles Daily News
With a trade for Miguel Tejada now unlikely, the Angels are taking one last
look at obtaining Alfonso Soriano from the Washington Nationals before
today's 1 p.m. non-waiver trade deadline.
South Florida Sun-Sentinel
According to two National League sources, the Marlins have contacted the
Nationals about acquiring the ballyhooed outfielder. It is believed the
Marlins are willing to part with some upper level pitching prospects such as
Yusmeiro Petit, Renyel Pinto and Jason Vargas to land the five-time All-Star
and make a run at the wild card.
Houston Chronicle
The Astros still want to acquire Miguel Tejada, but they're not going to give
up ace righthander Roy Oswalt to get the All-Star shortstop in a trade with
the Baltimore Orioles... The Astros also have been trying to land left
fielder/second baseman Alfonso Soriano from the Washington Nationals.
Washington Post
As the 4 p.m. Eastern time deadline approached, the ever-evolving list of
suitors continued to include Houston, Minnesota and the Los Angeles Angels --
the last of which has long been considered the best fit... Among those
latecomers were, of all teams, the Florida Marlins, the club with the lowest
payroll in baseball, one that was 6 1/2 games out of the lead in the National
League wild-card race.
Washington Time
Baseball sources said a number of teams still remained in the running for
Soriano last night, including the Los Angeles Angels and Dodgers, Minnesota
Twins, Houston Astros, Detroit Tigers and St. Louis Cardinals.
