When drafted he was very high ranked, but due to a major injury, he has been set back. Matt won’t win you any gold gloves, but he might win you a batting title if he can hit like he did this season. He tore it up by hitting .299 with 32 homeruns between Lake County and Kinston. Matt has always shown some power, but this was the first full season where he had a complete season hitting the ball. One thing Matt needs to work on and I mean he really needs to cut down on his strike outs. He has striken out 450 times in 404 career games. Matt has a bright future and his is still young, but he still needs to work on his game. As we head over to the projected future of Whitney let me first say that this is a crucial offseason for him. He is Rule 5 draft eligible and I do not think he will be taken. Sure, he had an amazing season, but it was at Single-A and with his past I don’t think a team will take a chance on taking him knowing he has to be on their active roster. I also don’t think the Tribe will add him to their 40-man roster. We have way too many players that need to be added and I don’t see Whitney toward the top of the list.
