WASHINGTON -- The Nationals agreed to terms with outfielder/first baseman
Matt Stairs on a non-guaranteed Minor League contract with an invitation to
Spring Training.
This will be the veteran Stairs' second stint with the organization. The
Expos signed Stairs as an amateur free agent in 1989. He is looking to play
his 19th season in the big leagues.
Stairs owns the all-time Major League mark with 23 pinch-hit home runs.
Stairs enters 2011 having played for a record-tying 12 Major League teams and
having homered for a record-tying 11 clubs.
Stairs spent the 2010 season with the Padres, hitting .232 with six home runs
and 16 RBIs. He is best known for his years with the Phillies, during which
he helped them win two National League pennants and one World Series title.
If he makes Washington's Major League roster, Stairs will most likely be a
backup first baseman and pinch-hitter.
個人感想：Good move。 Stairs 預期將會是很不錯的替補&代打， Adam Kilgore 的文
章中也提到 Stairs 經常被稱讚他在教士隊所帶來的正面影響。同時這張合
約並不包含大聯盟保障薪資，換句話說如果明年開季 Stairs 沒能進入25人
名單的話我們也不會有任何損失。希望這會是一筆雙贏的合約。
