Source: Myers to Padres in 11-player deal with Rays, Nats 來源:http://ppt.cc/uHYx SAN DIEGO -- Having already landed one big bat for their lineup for next season in Matt Kemp, could the Padres be closing in on another? A source told MLB.com on Wednesday that the Padres agreed to a three-team, 11-player trade with the Rays and Nationals, with the centerpiece being outfielder Wil Myers heading to San Diego. Myers, catcher Ryan Hanigan, right-hander Gerardo Reyes and left-hander Jose Castillo head from the Rays to the Padres. San Diego sends right-hander Joe Ross, catcher Rene Rivera, first baseman Jake Bauers, right-hander Burch Smith and a player to be named later, who will be 2014 first-round Draft pick Trea Turner, to Tampa Bay. The Rays then send Ross and Turner to the Nats for outfielder Steven Souza and lefty Travis Ott. None of the clubs have confirmed the reports. Padres get: Wil Myers, OF (TB) Ryan Hanigan, C (TB) Gerardo Reyes, RHP (TB) Jose Castillo, LHP (TB) Rays get: Steven Souza, OF (WSH) Rene Rivera, C (SD) Jake Bauers, 1B (SD) Burch Smith, RHP (SD) Travis Ott, LHP (WSH) Nationals get: Joe Ross, RHP (SD) Player to be named (Trea Turner, SS) (SD) Landing Myers, who turned 24 on Dec. 10, and pairing him with Kemp would certainly give the Padres' languid offense from this past season a significant boost for 2015. Such a deal has the Padres parting with a handful of Minor League prospects, as Turner is their No. 5 prospect, according to MLB.com, while Ross is ranked eighth, Bauers 14th and Smith 16th. The Padres have yet to finalize their deal with Kemp, who was part of a five-player deal reached at the Winter Meetings. He was reportedly in San Diego to take a physical on Tuesday. A news conference to introduce Kemp could come as soon as Thursday. With Myers, first-year general manager A.J. Preller gets the type of player he has talked about this winter -- a cost-controlled position player. Myers wouldn't be eligible for free agency until after the 2019 season. Myers, the 2013 American League Rookie of the Year Award winner, hit .222/.294/.320 with six home runs and 35 RBIs in 361 plate appearances in a season cut short to 87 games because of a fractured right wrist. Oddly enough, this is the second major trade the Padres and Rays have made this year. In January, under different general managers, the clubs combined for a seven-player deal that sent pitchers Jesse Hahn and Alex Torres to San Diego. The Padres have also had discussions with the Braves about outfielder Justin Upton and the framework of what a potential deal would look like. San Diego was believed to be willing to ship a package of prospects to Atlanta even if it meant just one season of Upton, who will become a free agent after the 2015 season. If the Padres do land Myers, they would have a real outfield conundrum on their hands, with six outfielders under contract -- and making well above the Major League minimum for next season. Kemp and Myers -- who has primarily played right field in his career -- would join Carlos Quentin, Cameron Maybin, Will Venable and Seth Smith in what has suddenly become a crowded outfield picture. The club could, of course, move one of those players, with the left-handed-hitting Smith being the most attractive and affordable ($6.5 million) piece for most clubs. But in terms of landing Kemp and potentially Myers, Preller has stuck to his guns and hung onto the top three arms in his starting rotation -- choosing to build around Tyson Ross, Andrew Cashner and Ian Kennedy in 2015 instead of breaking that trio up and moving asset-for-asset to get offensive help. San Diego also signed veteran righty Brandon Morrow to a one-year contract on Tuesday, and he will be a candidate to fill one of the remaining rotation spots. "If you have an imbalance right now, you don't want to flip to too far the other way," Preller said last week. "We are are trying to get more of a balanced club, and I think an ideal world is to leave [manager Bud Black] with enough pitching and try to find a way to get a few more bats." In terms of moving prospects to gain pieces that can help the Padres this season and beyond, it probably helped that Preller -- hired in August -- had no connection to the Minor Leaguers in the system. He didn't draft them and wasn't here for much of their development. "Sometimes you get too close. Looking back on some of the players with the Rangers ... you look back on it with a little different lens now," Preller said. Could additions of Kemp and, say, Upton with the return of the pitching staff be enough to help the Padres make a run at their first postseason berth since 2006? Preller has professed optimism on a handful of occasions, so has Black. "He's looked at our Minor League system," Black said. "He's looked at our Major League club. He's looked at our pitching. He's looked at our position player group and he feels, like a lot of us, another bat or two combined with our pitching can make a world of difference going into '15."
