The Dutch FA (KNVB) have set their sights on bringing the World Cup to
the Netherlands in 2018.
Belgium and Netherlands played host to Euro 2000 and the latter have
expressed interest in putting together a joint package to bring the World Cup
to the low countries in 2018.
KNVB general director Harry Been believes it is an attainable objective,
as he told De Telegraaf: "The World Cup in 2006 is in Germany, the World Cup
2010 in South Africa and in 2014 it is supposedly in Brazil. After that, the
turn is to Europe."
The Belgian FA have expressed surprise at Been's comments. "We held a
good Euro 2000, maybe we can think about a World Cup one day," said KNVB
chairman Jan Peeters. "But provisionally, there is nothing.
