Skysports.com Magpies play down Milan claim By Tom Adams - Created on 8 Feb 2007 Newcastle United have played down suggestions that Milan's home game with Celtic could be relocated to St James' Park. The Italian side had revealed on Thursday that, following the closure of Stadio Giuseppe Meazza due to security concerns, Newcastle had offered their home ground for the UEFA Champions League last 16 clash. Following the death of a police officer last week Italian football was immediately suspended, and although play will resume at the weekend only those grounds deemed safe will be allowed to admit fans. Milan are therefore searching for an alternate venue for the game which will be held on 7th March, but Newcastle have warned that a calendar clash could prevent the possibility of the Rossoneri's finest turning out on Tyneside. "We did receive an enquiry about this possibility although logistically there are several difficulties," read a club statement. "The calendar shows a home fixture in the Uefa Cup 24 hours later if we qualify for the last 16." Switzerland's Stade de Geneve has also been proposed as a possible venue, and The Bhoys have confirmed they are still awaiting news from Uefa and Milan. "Unfortunately, the situation in Milan is still unresolved," read a state- ment from the Scottish champions. "We have been informed that discussions between Uefa, AC Milan and the football authorities in Italy are currently ongoing. "Celtic Football Club are fully aware of the frustrations which Celtic supporters will be experiencing and are doing all we can to ensure the situation is clarified as soon as possible." Former Rangers hero Gennaro Gattuso is likely to be in the Milan side against Celtic, and the Italian international has questioned the wisdom of excluding fans from Italian football. "I think at this moment that the hard line is good but for all of February there will be no evening matches and teams will be penalised," said Gattuso. "Besides it's fair that season-ticket holders be allowed into the stadia - if three teams play with fans and the others don't it won't be a fair championship. "Fans are important and we can not do without them. Otherwise it would be better to close everything down. How can a football club exist without fans?" -- 恩恩,還看雙方的決定吧 剛看完米蘭的比賽,San Siro也有些球迷,看來應該不移師主場吧 -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 202.86.138.143
