Arsenal put an end to our cup hopes for the fourth time in 12 seasons with
two late goals at the Emirates on Tuesday evening.
The home side made seven changes from the starting eleven on Saturday but
they were still too strong for our strongest line-up, which was missing
Michael Owen and Mark Viduka up front.
Shola Ameobi and Obafemi Martins replaced the two injured strikers and
Martins should have added to his three goals for the season, missing a
hat-trick of chances.
At the other end a fine display from the recalled Shay Given kept us on
level terms but he could do nothing to prevent Nicklas Bendtner and Denilson
scoring late on.
Bendtner powered in a thunderous header from Armand Traore's left wing
cross and Denilson finished the job with a fine strike from the edge of the
box.
But in between Martins once again failed to find the net after rounding
the 'keeper, this time the strength of his shot unable to beat defender
Philippe Senderos who cleared acrobatically off the line.
