Forster set for Toon deal
－－Promising goalkeeper ready to commit future to St James'
Newcastle United goalkeeper Fraser Forster is set to commit his long-term
future to the club by signing a new five-year deal, skysports.com understands.
The youngster is highly-rated within the corridors of power at St James'
Park and is widely tipped to eventually succeed Steve Harper in the Magpies'
goal.
The 21-year-old spent a month at Edgeley Park in October and enhanced his
growing reputation with a series of impressive displays, as he kept three
clean sheets for Stockport in six games.
Forster has been in talks with the club's hierarchy for some time and now
Alan Shearer has become involved as he bids to tie up the future of a player
he regards highly.
Newcastle's precarious position at the foot of the table has increased
the necessity to get Forster to commit to fresh terms; amid talk other top
flight clubs are keeping an eye on the situation.
Shearer's involvement in the negotiations will likely only increase
speculation he could be willing to stay on at Newcastle next season.
