And when I did, what took me by surprise was how physical and fast the game is. 剛開始時大山姆沒有常常用我。所以我坐在板凳上仔細地觀察了英超比賽，讓我驚訝的是原來（英超）比賽是如此的筋肉和快節奏。 "You have so many fast players. For me that wasn't too bad because I've always been quick. I used to run competitively at school. I maybe could have done it professionally but football was what I wanted to do. 英超有非常多速度飛快的球員。當然對我來說不是什麼問題，我的速度也不差，以前在學校時常常參加賽跑，甚至也許有可能成為職業選手，不過足球才是我真正的最愛。 "So I could handle the speed but what was difficult was communication. I didn't speak English and I couldn't understand what my team-mates were saying during games. 所以速度不是問題了，問題在和隊友的溝通上。我不會說英語，也完全聽不懂隊友們在比賽時想說些什麼。 "Mark Viduka and Obafemi Martins were my main friends when I arrived. They used to come to my house. I didn't really speak English but we managed to get along anyway. We had players like Mark, Oba, Michael Owen and Geremi and we thought we were going to be challenging for a place in Europe. In Spain you work on tactics all the time because that is what the football is about over there. Everything is a lot more orderly. In England it's all about being fast and physical. I've done very, very little on tactics in my time here. 所有我曾共事過的主帥（基岡、米老鼠、老妖和大叔），除了休頓大叔之外── 全都不太在意陣型和戰術的安排。在西甲，指令是最重要的，我們天天都在討論戰術，畢竟，戰術不就等於足球嗎？不過在英格蘭，跑得快和體格強壯才是一切，這三年來真正討論戰術的時間少之又少。關於對前三任主帥的印象 "Allardyce was the one who brought me to club and gave me the chance to play in England and I'm very grateful to him for that, for taking a chance on me. 大山姆是買我入隊的人，他給我在英超踢球的機會，這部份讓我十分感激。 "I didn't really know Keegan but he seemed like a nice man. The thing was that he didn't pick me either and I heard that he didn't want me at the club. That didn't come from him because he barely ever spoke to me. 我和基岡.. 不太熟。不過他看起來像是個好人。不過他不僅沒有讓我上場，似乎也不想讓我繼續留在球隊陣容裡。這是我所聽到的小道消息啦──畢竟他好像也從來沒有和我對話過。 "I only knew Joe for a very short time because of his heart problems. He didn't really talk much to the players or work with them but he started me. 我和米老鼠只共事了很短一段時間，因為（後來）他的心臟出事了。不只是我，他也很少講話，甚至對球員或教練職務上都一樣。不過，他讓我先發！ "For that I was very grateful." 我真的很感激他（米老鼠）。 "Obviously Shearer is an idol up here but he was in a very difficult position. He had so little time and we were more or less down before he took over. It was an impossible job. 老妖是個真正的領導者，不過老實說，他上任時球隊已經整組壞光光了。可以讓他動手挽救的時間太短，而且早在他上任前，命運就已注定。（保級留在英超）是個不可能的任務。 "It was the first time I had been relegated in my career. I just felt so bad for the whole city and the fans. Afterwards it was strange for us all. There were lots of rumours about us all being sold but that never happened. We all told ourselves that we wanted to stay, be positive and get back in the top flight. He was the right person to take over and you can see that from the effect he has had on the team. He works so hard - I think he spends 24 hours a day at the training ground sometimes. 大叔和烤的木頭兩人都是很棒的傢伙。大叔是真正適合代領紐卡走出黑暗的主帥人選，你可以看見他上任後，球隊上下的改變。他工作非常勤奮──我甚至認為他某些時候曾經一整天都待在訓練場不走。 "Last year we started going for team meals. It's quite normal in Spain to do that once a month or so and I'm glad we do it now because it brings you together and we have a good chance to talk about football. 而去年開始，隊上有了固定的聚餐時間。這在西甲是稀鬆平常的事情，大多都每個月、或是特別選個時間，全隊一起聚餐，大家團結一致，邊吃邊聊足球。現在，我很開心能（也在英格蘭）和隊友們聚會。關於你的英文？ "It is getting better and I can understand people now.
