Sir Bobby Robson 會在對出戰 Everton 的賽前記者會，官方宣佈這個消息。
Metro 報引用 Shearer 的話,“ This is where I want to finish my career and this
also comfirms I will do that. This will be my last contract and I am fairly
sure of this. I am almost certain it will be my last contract as a player.”
Evening Chronicle 報指出，喜鵲的主席 Freddy Shepherd 提及這是 Shearer 想要的，
同時也是 Newcastle United 想要的。Shepherd 進一步說到，緊管球隊曾經財務緊繃，
但從來沒有要求過 Shearer to take a pay cut。這全是因為這位前英格蘭隊長，對
球隊的忠誠和他所為喜鵲貢獻的一切。
Newcastle 出生的 Shearer，已經在 347場 Premiership 出賽中得分 224次。
