STOCKHOLM, Sweden (AP)— Sweden will call up its top players for a
friendly against Greece next week.
The only star missing from the roster presented Tuesday by coaches
Tommy Soderberg and Lars Lagerback was Celtic striker Henrik Larsson,
who retired from the national team.
Arsenal midfielder Fredrik Ljungberg and striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic
of Ajax were both slated for the Aug. 20 friendly in Norrkoping.
Experienced players like Aston Villa striker Marcus Allback or Celtic's
Johan Mjallby were called up alongside young talents Pontus Farnerud and
Mikael Dorsin of Strasbourg.
"We've tried to pick the best team possible," Lagerback said. "We must
be very focused because we have euro qualifiers coming up soon after."
Both Sweden and Greece top their respective qualifying groups for the
2004 European Championships.
Sweden's next qualifier is Sept. 6 at home against San Marino, while the
Greeks play Armenia away on the same date.
