Finland name full-strength squad for Euro qualifiers
HELSINKI, Aug 28 (Reuters) - Finland coach Antti Muurinen has named
a full strength squad for Euro 2004 qualifiers against Azerbaijan and
Wales next month.
Ajax forward Jari Litmanen, Auxerre midfielder Teemu Tainio and Liverpool
defender Sami Hyypia are among the players returning to the squad after
missing the 1-1 friendly draw against Denmark earlier this month for a
variety of reasons.
Finland play in Azerbaijan on September 6 then travel to meet Group Nine
leaders Wales four days later and must win both matches to have any chance
of reaching the finals in Portugal next year.
Finland are fourth in the group with six points from six matches. Wales
top the standings with 12 points from five matches, while Italy have 10 points from five games. Serbia and Montenegro are third on eight points from six matches.
